Finally moved to Boston yesterday! And this Friday I go to New York City to check out my living arrangements in that city. Will be fantastic.
@Afrika Bambaataa hit me up. i will straighten you out. what school are you going to? Russian Community College of Brooklyn?
@Snug_Lee I'm going to university in Boston but I'm living with some friends in NYC on the weekends.
@Snug_Lee Yeah I'll hit you up! You're in Princeton still?
@Afrika Bambaataa What area of town?
@Norsktroll Fenway.
@Afrika Bambaataa That's a pretty nice area. At least you are close to a lot of sports bars :-)
@Norsktroll and in NYC it's near downtown Brooklyn.
Listening to Bill Simmons' podcast with Mike Lombardi, I'm feeling even better about the Seahawks.
@Tony K. lombardi is terrible though.
@christopher_m @Tony K. Wasn't he a GM in Denver or somewhere in the West?
@Norsktroll @Tony K. he might be really smart with figuring out which personnel are good, but his game analysis frankly stinks. He acts like who gets the ball first in which half matters, and then talks about how a missed field goal is a turnover, which I guess is true except that it totally misses the point of football being a game of probabilities and not absolutes... a coach has to consider the VA of a field goal attempt, and can't be blamed if it comes up 0, that will always be one of the options.
@christopher_m @Tony K. He was with the Raiders the longest time, as Senior Personnel Executive. That's the station I remembered him talking about in his podcasts. Before that a long time with the Browns as Director of Player Personnel , and some shorter stints with various teams.
@Norsktroll @Tony K. I think he's been an assistant for a couple teams, I've just been consistently unimpressed with his insight.
To credit Simmons, he acknowledges PNW teams -- such as the Seahawks and, yes, the Trail Blazers -- which doesn't happen so much from national sports pundits.
In a 12-team league, this is my fantasy team:
Ray Rice
Adrian Peterson
Trent Richardson
Marques Colston
Matt Ryan
Demaryius Thomas
Miles Austin
Tony Gonzalez
DeAngelo Williams
Denarius Moore
Carson Palmer
Alfred Morris
Laurent Robinson
Dustin Keller
Sebastian Janikowski
New York Giants D/ST
@Tony K. who is Alfred MOrris?
@Snug_Lee @Tony K. A rookie running back on the Redskins. One of three guys who could see a heavy workload, although it's hard to tell with Shanahan and running backs.
To me, getting Miles Austin at 7.3 (75) was my best value pick. I'm stunned he fell that far to be honest, so yeah. Marques Colston at 4.10 (46) was also a great value pick. It goes to show that worthwhile wide receivers can be found in the upper-middle rounds.
Now, my biggest reach was probably Matt Ryan at 5.3 (51); however, I think he's set to have a breakout year and, moreover, he's my favorite of the second tier QBs. With Roddy White and Juilo Jones at wideout, he's going to throw a ton of TDs hopefully; furthermore, the breaking down of Michael Turner -- which is all but a guarantee -- means that Mike Smith will have to finally open up the Falcons fucking playbook.
Next, my sleeper pick is Alfred Morris at 12.10 (42). If things go to pot with my injury risk picks in the second and third round -- who are Adrian Peterson and Trent Richardson, of course -- my hope is that he shines through and becomes Mike Shanahan's lead horse. A sneaky Terrell Davis type, y'know.
Two of my old standbys, Tony Gonzalez at 8.10 (94) and Carson Palmer at 11.3 (123), were there for me to select at fair spots. I've had them both on my teams in the past -- particularly Palmer, who's one of my fantasy faves to this day -- and am glad to have them. Admittedly, I did want Jimmy Graham in round 2 -- but he went two picks ahead of me -- so, as a result, I sat and waited for Gonzalez; however, there was no way Palmer wouldn't be my backup QB. I love me some C-Palm!
Moving on, guys who weren't on my mind before the draft that I took include wideouts Demaryius Thomas at 6.10 (70) and Denarius Moore at 10.10 (118). For me, they were essentially breakout prospects who were a mixture of need/value choices at their respective spots. I hope not to rely on either one, but it'll be fun to see if they pan out successfully.
Hmm, what else ... um ... okay, I took DeAngelo Williams at 9.3 (99) as the snake around due to Jonathan Stewart going quickly before him. At that spot, I kind of planned on taking either/or there. Luckily for me, Stewart went just a few picks before and my choice was essentially made for me. In the end, I'm glad I got Williams over Stewart.
Oh, and last but not least, I got Ray Rice at 1.3 (3). For what it's worth, Aaron Rogers went #1 and Arian Foster went #2. For a brief second, I contemplated taking LeSean McCoy -- while I had no interest in Mr. Gisele Bundchen -- yet, deep down within the cockles of my heart, I knew that Rice was the safer choice between him and McCoy; thus, I went with the safety first mantra.
So, um, there y'all go. An unrequested, as well as likely unwanted look into my fantasy football draft process. Crazy stuff, eh.
On a side note, I did plan on handcuffing Adrian Peterson with Toby Gerhart in the 10th/11th round; however, he went in the motherfucking, goddamn 7th!!!
Fuck, if I could, I'd trade Denarius Moore for Gerhart right now. Unfortunately, though, that isn't a feasible option. I've just got to hope Adrian Peterson's health holds up, albeit sans a fucking backup plan for me.
Looking at BBR, I realized the best site update they made. EVEN BETTER THAN JEFF'S SALARY INFO. They now have players' twitter names listed.
@Dan_tm what could be better than following professional athletes on twitter other than everything?
Random trivia question:
What two former Blazers are in the top 10 list of games played?
@dj idoltime Jermaine
@Dan_tm No. Let me add that its a top 10 list of games played.. in a single season..
Random tidbits from the fascinating leaderboard for most games played in a single season:
The all-time leader in games played in a single season for the NBA is Walt Bellamy who played in 88 games the year he was traded from the Knicks to the Pistons. He's also the only guy in Hall of Fame who played in more than 82 games in a season.
Jarrett Jack did play in 83 games the year he was traded from Toronto to New Orleans but that just gets you tied for 21st with a bunch of people including Aaron McKie.
@jakesnake99 Yes. Ratliff and Abdur-Rahim both played in a 85 games across their time in ATL and Portland in 2003-2004.
@jakesnake99 Man, Dickau was so lazy he only managed to pull off 71 games.
@dj idoltime theo ratliff
@dj idoltime wait, no, that's wrong.
@dj idoltime Steve Smith come in that trade?
@jakesnake99 Shareef is correct. Not Dickau.
@dj idoltime abdur-rahim and dickau
@dj idoltime I can almost guarantee this occurred before I became interested in the Blazers. Somewhere in the 2002-2005 bit.
One more amusing hint before I give the answer..
They were part of the same trade to the Blazers.
@dj idoltime I have no fucking idea
@dj idoltime Fucking didn't read that properly. SMH.
Another hint: both guys were traded to the Blazers during the year that they played in more than 82 games.
@TiMB hah, that.. was in reference to Billups. He's not a Blazer, remember? ;)
@Dan_tm I certainly flubbed some. I was actually quite surprised to find anything interesting under the category of most games played in a single season. I, like Jake, figured a table of 1st place ties.
@dj idoltime Fucking backcourt hint sucks
@TiMB No.
@dj idoltime Jack?
@dj idoltime I cheated and looked, so I won't answer. However, despite the rocky start, I will begrudgingly admit that this was a good trivia question.
@jakesnake99 No
@dj idoltime blake and outlaw
Here's a hint. They are the only two from the top 10 who played in the last 10 years.
@TiMB No.
Wrong era and getting colder.
@dj idoltime Hollins
@TiMB No.
@dj idoltime Porter?
@dj idoltime Ok.
@Dan_tm Nope. Because he's not on the NBA top 10 most games played list. Only the NBA/ABA one.
@dj idoltime You're not counting Lucas?
@Dan_tm As I am only counting NBA
@Dan_tm No, I'm not counting him.
@dj idoltime Well, at least one was an ABA season, so I'm seconding Tim's assertion that you are bad at this.
@TiMB @Dan_tm I saw it happen, but I'll keep it to myself. FWIW, I think the unnamed non-Blazer would have been great next to Brandon in the back court.
@dj idoltime @Dan_tm Also managed to increase my shame by writing full discloser not disclosure.
@dj idoltime @Dan_tm Full discloser: I just deleted a comment for being an idiot and naming a non-Blazer.
@TiMB @Dan_tm No.
@dj idoltime @Dan_tm Sheed
@jakesnake99 Trades
@Dan_tm No, I think I've managed to put it all out there.
Two Blazers are on the top 10 list for most games played in a single NBA season. They both played in more than 82 games..
@dj idoltime @Dan_tm You're bad at this
um, what? Wouldn't that be a many, many way tie for 1st at 82?
@dj idoltime OMFG. Are there any other important things you're leaving out?
@Dan_tm Nope.
Let me be extra clear: 2 Blazers are in the top 10 for most games played in a single season. Only the regular season.
@dj idoltime Pippen.
@Dan_tm Did I mention that it's in the NBA?
@dj idoltime THAT SEEMS LIKE IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
