2/7/13 Ann Complains DE
It has been brought to my attention that the previous DE was getting unwieldy. This is a new one.

Brandon was quick to respond with typical PWE false promises.

In my last DE, I lamented that Nolan was unjustly left out of the All Star Game. Now he has been left out of the Rising Star game, as well as the Skills Challenge. The hits just keep coming. And after his impressively mediocre game, no less!

Someone should make a Valentine's day-daily. Not it.
BMTICHFTW!
I'm not sure on a ton in this draft but I would stay far, faaaaar away from Isaiah Austin.
Damn it, I can't think of who to keep as my infield keeper for this year. I've got to choose between Matt Wieters, Edwin Encarnacion and Asdrubal Cabrera. First base is really deep and I don't want to be fooled by EE's career year (even though the last year and a half is full of underlying numbers that say he could be in for some pretty astounding numbers... especially in that TOR lineup). Meanwhile the latter two are at positions that are seemingly scarce for production (SS between leaner than catcher). After having Asdrubal for two years, I can say that he is definitely a decent SS to own, but only for the first half. He peters out horrendously in the second and you're left floundering trying to think of a way to get value for him or flat out drop him. Now in Matt Weiters, you get a catcher who should be entering his power prime, has shown solid power, durability but doesn't have the BA to make it justifiable to keep him. Only thing that is helping him in this discussion is that he has that C eligibility, plays pretty much every day and can pummel the ball.
Anybody have any insight? At the earlier stages I want to keep Edwin... but not having to worry about a SS would be great because the only shortstop I'd want is probably Alcides Escobar this year (and I'm pretty sure my friends know this and will snipe him from me).
@We Want Wiggins Yeah, Edwin Encarnacion feels like a poor man's Jose Bautista with the massive jump in his numbers.
In fantasy baseball, I'd stick with the catcher who posts 20+ HRs and plays 140 games per season. It's easier to find guys at the other positions, even if they may not produce at the same levels as your old guys.
@AK1984 agreed. I've got plenty of other guys at first I could look at ranging from Goldschmidt, Rizzo, Santana (who is a C/1B/DH), Freeman. All are younger and have shown a certain aptitude that befits future stardom in fantasy then somebody like Encarncion that was a hyped minor leaguer, and is the epitome of the post hype sleeper. Him not having that 3B eligibility also makes him less desirable. No longer as versatile.
@We Want Wiggins Yeah, it's hard to expect a repeat performance. It also shows that first basemen can be found late that produce at unexpected rates each year. Just need to find that diamond in the rough.
@AK1984 I wasn't expecting 40 at all haha. I was thinking more 28-30 because late in 2011 he was finally healthy (bugged by leg and wrist injuries most of 2011, injured the bulk of 2010), cut down his strikeouts and seemed more patient. Was a stud to end '11 and the profile was there that he was finally living up to his billing. Banking on a repeat is foolhardy.
@AK1984 I'm thinking Weiters. I know for certain I can always fall back on Cabrera (he won't fly off the board), Andrus should be there from round 6-8, same with Ian Desmond. If Starlin Castro is not kept, he could be someone I can see spending a 5th round pick on. And as I stated earlier, I can always outreach my friends on Escobar in the early teens (13-15) and still feel fine elsewhere.
As it stands, the keeper core I have is Matt Wieters (I always misspell his name), Ryan Braun, Andrew McCutchen and Madison Bumgarner. I'll be fine.
@We Want Wiggins Yeah, he came out of nowhere to blast 40+ HRs. Like the fantasy football version of James Jones, who caught like 15 TDs or something.
@AK1984 I do want to let it be known I drafted him in the 20th, 21st and for $1 in leagues last year. Thanks Edwin, you the best!
@We Want Wiggins Yeah, keep either Wieters or Cabrera.
I'm more of a fantasy football guy, but position matters in every sport. I got Matt Ryan and Tony Gonzalez at good values in this past year due to them being rated crazy low. Rodgers in 1st or Ryan in 3rd/4th? Give me Ryan. Gronk or Gramhm in late-1st/early-2nd or Gonzalez in mid-rounds? Give me Tony G.!
At 1B, there are always sleepers. Not quite like in fantasy football with running backs -- such as Alfred Morris in round #13 -- but pretty similar.
between = being
Wish I'd watched this.

@AK1984 THAT.WAS.AMAZING. Leonard over everything!
Holy shit, awful story - report says he thought she was a burglar

@blazeraddict Oh geez, that's terrible.
Obligatory: Guns don't make your house safer.
@Dan_tm @blazeraddict obligatory: she should have had her own gun to protect herself with
@blazeraddict There's some macabre joke to be made out of that horrific incident, but it's both too soon and I can't come up with it myself.
I leave that up to the professionals like Daniel Tosh.
All kidding aside, though, I wonder what the legal ramifications are for that in South Africa. Presuming that it was 100% an accident and he's not trying to cover for himself committing murder, I'm not sure if he can (or should) be punished for what amounts to nothing more than negligence.
@AK1984 @blazeraddict He doesn't seem like the murdering type, but you never know.
@AK1984 @noBjustRyan @blazeraddict Police say she was shot four times, and that there have been incidents reported before. Doesn't look good.
@noBjustRyan @blazeraddict It'll certainly follow him wherever he goes, yeah.
@AK1984 @blazeraddict whatever the case, he'll be paying for that mistake for the rest of his life regardless of what the law says/does.
@noBjustRyan @blazeraddict In the U.S., I figure it'd be involuntary manslaughter if everything went down as he claims. It'd be interesting to see if that's an available option in the South African criminal justice system.
@blazeraddict holy crap. that is effed
Coach Stotts should be fired for deactivating Nolan Smith before this game.
Hmm, time to share one of my favorite comedy bits by the late, great George Carlin.
http://youtu.be/-14SllPPLxY
"The owners of this country know the truth: It's called the 'American Dream,' because you have to be asleep to believe it."
@AK1984 If I were older, then I would be the pioneer in making fun of baseball. But I am not, so Carlin earned a living off it....Yep, that Carlin is lucky he was born before me.
@AK1984 actually, I agree with his critique of football. Which is also why I am more of a basketball fan than both those sports. However, the trend of uptempo/risk taking style has me interested.
@noBjustRyan Ha-ha, that's not the football v. baseball one.
Oregon has swept the regular-season series against Washington for the first time since 1995.

No Kitz shoe photos, cabin was too dark.
I'm really glad the battery on my laptop died and I missed the second half.
Pretty damn good loss tonight. Hand claps. I think the team is collectively hitting a wall, as they should due to their lack of depth. Second half will be pretty damn ugly in my estimation due to the continue raggedness we should witness.
@We Want Wiggins they will be who we thought they were
@We Want Wiggins Tanking and a high draft pick are good, but I hope it doesn't mean we shorten careers of guys who can play
@blazeraddict like? I don't think I fully understand the second half of your comment.
@skywaker9 (David) @blazeraddict as a business and as a team trying to compete, if you're sinking money into someone that can't play and you don't know it because you're not willing to find out-- that's on you for wasting money and a roster spot.
@We Want Wiggins @blazeraddict Yeah, let's see what we've got in those guys, if its nothing that sucks but we don't know because they don't play.
@blazeraddict ahhh, yes. Thanks for the clarification. I too hope that the minutes distrubution begins to even out and we see more out of guys like Barton, Smith (hey, less Lillard is better long term for his career), Freeland, Claver and Meyers. The team peaked in its first 50 some games. Now comes the time for evaluation because we haven't much of shot against any of the potential 1 seeds.
@We Want Wiggins I'm gun shy on injuries, but damn it if Batum wrecks his arm in this meaningless season...
@We Want Wiggins Basically, I don't want to run Lillard, LMA, and Nic into the ground chasing 40 wins and 10th place in the west
An interesting team stat this year is TOV%. Because the New York Knicks are so cautious at avoiding turnovers, there are only 8 out of 30 teams with a TOV% that's better than league average. Basically, the Knicks screw up the curve.
ef Harden is out. god dammit
@brandonmitchell A precautionary rest for him, right?
