Pinwheel Empire is a social Blazers site which aims to bring fans together in a unique and new community. It's run by a bunch of volunteer gerbils all over the world. We're new, trying to cross the Rubicon and do something different – it's an evolving process with a lot of small victories and defeats.

What are the odds of a #14 seed wearing the home whites against a #15 seed in the Sweet 16?
Someone should tweet Ken Pomeroy with that question.

@TiMB I also imagine the ball could have gone in without all those theatrics.
@Norsktroll @TiMB But it wouldn't have been nearly as fun that way!!
@PaulMomo @TiMB I also enjoy a good surprising free kick that lets the goalie fly standing on its own. But yeah, it was fun. Also that he stayed aware of when the kick was supposed to go down so he wouldn't be offside.
@TiMB hahaha what a dick. That was awesome, and I imagine it won't be the last time we see something like this
Actual passage from a NZ Member of Parliament's reply to a constituent on him voting against a same sex marriage bill -
"I strongly support measures to ensure that there is no discrimination against individuals based on gender or sexuality. It is quite another matter to then extend to same sex couples access to an institution that many people see as a heterosexual institution"
I mean, really? Quite another matter? No discrimination at all in denying them access to the same rights/privileges as heterosexual people? He's our goddamn Minister of Foreign Affairs, too. Our face to the world. Sigh.
@TiMB He'd get along great with every American politician ever. Why is a church institution such as marriage even a government institution in the first place? Either extend the right to everyone or let the church define it and have no legal benefits associated with it
@PaulMomo @TiMB I suppose that harkens back to the days when marriages were political devices to attain peace, power/influence and prosperity for the ruling classes. Like the princesses of Hannover marrying the prince of England or the prince of Austria marrying some countess in Hungary.
Simmons will be live blogging the NCAA Tournament tomorrow, which should be fun.
Under Lindsey Hunter, Phoenix's offense has cratered. It's arguably the worst in the league.
The Mighty Boosh>>>
Although Anthony Davis' per-minute/pace-adjusted numbers are good in New Orleans, I'm not a fan of how Monty Williams is using him -- especially with the limited minutes and herky-jerky rotations -- and think the Hornets might need to make a coaching change for the sake of their future star player.
I'd look at an out-of-the-box hire, with Bill Laimbeer being a intriguing option. Laimbeer is a head coach in the WNBA, has won a ring at that level, and has also been an assistant in the NBA, so his resume is solid. Laimbeer as the Pelicans head coach, offensive-minded and defensive-minded assistants at his sides, a player development coach taking up the third spot, and a big man coach (e.g., Rich Mahorn) to work with Davis would be an interesting arrangement.
@AK1984 Davis, Anderson and RoLo are a tough three to fit in. Anderson is great offensively but needs the type of presence Lopez provides on the other end. Davis and Lopez work together too, but then you're leaving probably your best scoring threat on the bench too much. Anderson/Davis combinations have been an utter failure from what I've heard/read.
I kinda hope Monty comes back to PDX as our defensive guy if he gets ousted in NO. Would be nice for us to have him and he seemed to like it here.
@TiMB @AK1984 Monty was asked about the Davis/Anderson combos being so bad by defensive numbers and he put a lot of the blame on the perimeter guys they play with not being able to stop penetration. Not all the story, obviously, but it could certainly be a contributing factor. Do the Hornicans have any decent perimeter defenders?
@AK1984 @PaulMomo Dame/Redick/Batum/RyAnd/LA would struggle so bad defensively. Nic would have to go on the toughest perimeter guy, be it a 1, 2 or 3. No one to shut down the paint would make for painful defense given how often Dame and Redick let guys past.
135-125 wins, here we come!
@AK1984 @PaulMomo God that team would be exceptional offensively. We'd still have no one except Dame who could score out of isos but Redick does PnRs well. Would be an interesting team to watch, especially if it forced LA to the post a bunch more.
Still would far rather go the Reke + defensive center route but if a route to contention isn't gonna happen, why not make it fun?
@AK1984 @PaulMomo If we did that, Redick would be a fun guy to sign with the rest of our FA money. Reckon he could match what Wes did plus he can facilitate some.
@TiMB @PaulMomo @AK1984 New Orleans is one of the few teams that could use Wesley Matthews, too, even as a 3 next to Eric Gordon. So yeah, I'd offer Matthews + Leonard for Ryan Anderson in a heartbeat.
@PaulMomo @AK1984 Or if you kept Wes and gave them say Meyers and the #12, you'd have 4 starters that are making 9.7 threes between them this season. That's more than all but 2 TEAMS make a game. From 4 guys.
HIGH VARIANCE AS FUCK, BITCHES!
@PaulMomo @AK1984 Stotts would love the shit out of RyAnd. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=d8d895f
@AK1984 @TiMB I was thinking they had to keep him for salary floor reasons but then I remembered they're still carrying a huge pile of crappy contracts
@TiMB @PaulMomo Save money maybe?
But yeah, Austin Rivers sucks.
@TiMB @AK1984 an excellent question. They would have to be getting back multiple firsts and even then.....
But I do agree with you Tim, much as I love Ryan Anderson he probably isn't a great fit with that roster. Imagine him ans Portland's high-variance 4 though... It's like what Dan always wanted Babbit to be minus the goofiness... So I guess not what Dan wanted Babbit to be at all
@AK1984 @PaulMomo Why would the Magic ever even think of considering that?
@PaulMomo @TiMB Yeah, New Orleans needs to move Eric Gordon in a deal where it gets back both a shooting guard and small forward to balance out its starting five.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=c3s6bpz
@PaulMomo @AK1984 I kinda disagree. I know there is a bunch of small-ball going on....Bosh and Garnett playing center etc, but Davis should be left at PF. He'd get chewed out inside at his weight and he isn't exactly tall for a center either.
They might be best to try to get value for Anderson and just roll with Davis and Lopez.
@TiMB @AK1984 I mean obviously Lopez>>>Anderson defensively, I think Monty is just trying to say that Anderson-Davis frontlines can work with the proper personnel around them
@PaulMomo @AK1984 Fine to blame the perimeter guys (they suck) but that doesn't account for why those lineups are so much worse than the ones with Lopez in em.
@TiMB @AK1984 wow no they REALLY don't unless Aminu is way better than I think
What would you say to an 8 year old kid who asked you " can infinity be expressed as a number?" His exact words. Oh dear,. Is that normal or have I missed something?
@annlyn I would say that infinity is not a real number just an idea... an idea of something without an end that cannot be measured.
@annlyn Well, it can be expressed as a symbol: ∞
But because he's only 8, I doubt he meant it like that.
Like Dan, I agree that an 8-year-old kid isn't likely to be the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to math -- unless he's some budding genius -- thus, in that context, it seems like a reasonable enough question from a young'un.
@AK1984 @annlyn 8 is the perfect age to explain it. It's his number, just fallen over.
@annlyn That's pretty normal, I used to wonder the same thing around that age
@PaulMomo It's been a while since I was 8, but from what I recall it could be challenging at that age to grasp mind-boggling concepts like infinity. At 8, trying to comprehend that something like numbers can be without any limit is a mindblower. So yeah, Momo, I'm with you on this.
@annlyn WHAT DID YOU DO? Not with the kid, with your comment.
@annlyn But regarding the kid, that sounds pretty normal.
